I am Laura Fox renamed MeMe by my two-year old pre-speech niece also called Laura!
Working with Veronica & my Clamour & Roar friends was enjoyable & enriching culminating in our Ghost Hares performances in May 2019. While the prospect of a stage appearance was way beyond my intuitive comfort zone, it proved rewarding & did justice to the nine-month process of getting to know each other through the ice-breaker games, Debra’s singing exercises and Veronica’s gentle coaxing of our childhood & life stories providing a wealth of moving & exhilarating experiences.
Only manna from heaven compares to Veronica’s invite to join the 10-week zoom writing project over the grim summer of covid lockdown & presented a welcome antidote. Her sensitive choice of themes each week evoked memories and rekindled sensations & layers of feelings from childhood & youth. I’m enthralled by the songs Debra & Veronica subsequently created.
“What the hell’s a haiku?” My initial ignorance became a weekly obsession for a whole year! The longer tanga was my preference as those extra 14 syllables gave more wriggle room for expression. Again, this project provided yearned escape from covid times, fired my aul brain cells and stimulated creative juices. I loved reading other people’s haikus each month on the Civic website.
From my first encounter with Veronica, my horizon broadened, life gained depth & colour and I’m surfing this gloomy pandemic with good vibes & optimism – Laura’s aura aglow!
