In recent years there has been a large number of horror films made in or set in Ireland, many of them best considered within the ‘folk horror’ genre. This talk will look at the Irish folk horror film in general, asking why it has become so important in the last few years, and what its significance is. The talk will take a close look at three of the most prominent films: Wakewood (2009; dir. David Keating), The Hallow (2015; dir. Colin Hardy), and The Hole in the Ground (2019; dir. Lee Cronin).
