Betrayal, happiness, sadness, love and family are just a few words I would use to describe the Queens of Pimlico.
This play had me crying with laughter and also crying with tears of sadness. The writing of upcoming young Irish Playwright, Derek Masterson , will capture your heart from start to finish.
Queens of Pimlico is set in the 1950’s, an era where sex before marriage was against church teaching, and being pregnant before marriage was very much frowned upon.
But the Queens of Pimlico are strong women who can get through it all.

Rita and Alma are two sisters whom have been through so much together. There are two strong female performances from Rita (played by Amy Kelly)
who raised her little sister Alma (played by Ericka Roe ) when their parents passed away .

There is not just sadness throughout, but it is hilariously funny in parts also with lines that everyone will know like “haven’t got a pot to piss in ”, “have a cup of tea you will feel better” and my favourite “my heart nearly dropped out of me arse”. This play displays a great sisterly bond and love.

Following the performance, I got the opportunity to speak with Amy and Ericka who have thoroughly enjoyed performing in this show, they feel like they really are sisters at this stage. They spoke about how good feedback they have had on their performances and that they have only had two negative comments- one being that people wish it was longer and the second being they didn’t cut the carrots properly in the performance so now they have changed it to celery ha!

If you are looking to see a good play with every emotion involved this is it! Remember to bring your tissues.
Hats off Derek Masterson, I am looking forward to seeing A Mothers Love in December.
