From Eden – Meet The Performer: Rex Ryan

In From Eden, Two lost individuals, Alan and Eva find themselves locked in a bathroom together on New Year’s Eve .

Stephen Jones’ modern classic play is brought to new life by Glass Mask Theatre this November, in the Civic Studio Theatre. Performed by Rex Ryan and Jordanne Jones. Stephen Jones is an award-winning writer. His most recent work is the hit TV series, Northern Lights.

From Eden will run in our Studio Theatre at 8.15pm from Nov 19-23, with a 1pm Lunchtime Performance on Wednesday, November 20th.

Get to know a bit more about performer & director of Glass Mask Theatre, Rex Ryan here:

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m Rex Ryan. I act, write and direct. I watch anime with my daughter. I’m the director of Dublin’s premier new writing theatre, Glass Mask on Dawson Street. Like in Ancient Greece, we do a giant feast and loads of wine pre-show and then wild new plays. I recently played a brothel owner in a western series on Netflix and wore a giant tash. A lifelong goal achieved.

When did you first become interested in performing and writing?
Essentially my mum and dad threw me into youth theatre the moment I emerged from the womb. They forced me to be an actor.

Can you tell us about some of your proudest moments, as an artist, so far? I did a one man show in the Abbey with my old friend Karl Shiels directing me. It was 90 minutes non stop dialogue from a man in a mental institution who believed he was the world’s greatest magician. I took pre workout drink before each show. That was pretty good…

Where did this show come from? What can audiences expect?
FROM EDEN is quite simply one of the most beautiful off beat love stories by one of Ireland’s best playwrights Stephen jones. I saw it years ago in a tiny theatre and once I got glass mask, I knew we had to re-imagine it and get more people to see it.

Tell us one random fact about yourself.
I was shot during a robbery when I was 19. I wasn’t robbing …
